Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.”

I’m Saved, Now What?

First, let me say congratulations, you just made the biggest decision of your life. You are now a new creature and officially part of God’s family with full access to approach Him in prayer. All past, present, and future sins are wiped clean through faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit now comes to live inside you permanently to guide, comfort, and empower you. You become a “new creature” spiritually, meaning your old spiritual state is replaced with a new life connected to God. Your eternal destiny is shifted to heaven, and your place in God’s family is sealed.

Below are five things to consider to start doing now, that will help you to move forward in your new life and some scripture that will help you to understand a little better.

  1. Make sure you understand salvation. John 3:16
  2. Find a good church that teaches on the bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  3. Set aside time each day to focus on God.
  4. Develop relationships with people who can help you spiritually. 1 Corinthians 15:33.
  5. Be water baptized. Romans 6:3-4

Bree Rostic of YMI says this, “The kingdom message has helped me to grow in my journey. No longer do I think of my salvation as just my ticket to heaven. Now I see that I am restored as a coheir of Jesus.”

  • What Does It Mean To Be Saved?

There are several different terms that mean the same as receiving salvation. When reading the bible it would be helpful to know a few of those terms. Redemption, deliverance, wholeness, and spiritual rescue all mean that you have given your life over to Christ and been saved. Hopefully this will help from being confused.

All of these words have the same meaning. To be saved means to be rescued from the penalty and power of sin through faith in Jesus Christ, receiving forgiveness and eternal life as a free gift.

Forgiveness of sins: believers are pardoned for their wrongs because Jesus took the punishment on the cross.

Spiritual Rebirth: The Holy Spirit enters a person’s life to change their inner nature and guide them.

Scripture to take a look at: John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Corinthians 5:17

Bibledictionalytoday.com says this, “the term ‘saved’ in the biblical sense primarily refers to the act of being rescued from sin and it’s consequences, primarily death and separation from God.”

There are a couple different scriptures in the bible that says yes you can and no you cannot.

Hebrews 10:26 says, “if we go on sinning…there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.”

John 15:6 says, “If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers, such branches are pick up, thrown into the fire and burned.”

What causes one from falling away from the Lord is that they would continue to sin and not repent. The Lord knows your heart. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you think you have lost your salvation.

  1. Repentance
  2. Backsliding
  3. Eternal Security
  4. Ongoing Struggle
  5. Living in Sin

1 Timothy 4:1 says, “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.”

Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Gotquestions.com says this, “God Himself would have to revoke His purchase of the individual for whom He paid with the precious blood of Christ.”

How Do I Deal with Nobody Else in My Family Being Saved?

When one first gets saved there is lots of things in your life that changes. You find yourself trying to deal with so many different feelings. It does not help when you are the only one in your household that has received salvation. You always want your loved ones to be with you forever and to know that they will not be in eternity with your or Christ is a little unsettling. Here are a few things that you can do to help them and put your mind at ease.

  1. Pray – Pray for each family member and them as a hold to open their hearts and minds to receive the gospel. Take a look at 1 Timothy 2:3-4.
  2. Share the Gospel – Choose a good time to tell them maybe all together or if working with each one individually works better. Take a look at Romans 10:9.
  3. Live a Christ-like Example – Shine your light. Show what the Lord has done in your life. Take a look at 1 John 2:6
  4. Engage in Conversations – Look for opportunity to talk about Jesus and what He has done in your life. 1 Peter 3:15
  5. Invite Them to Church or Events – Take every opportunity to invite them to things going on at church. A fellowship luncheon, a Homegroup meeting. Something that is laid back and no pressure. Hoping they will feel comfortable and maybe open up a little. Take a look at 1 Peter 4:9.

Anu Kasturi of PassionEquip.com says, “The thought may feel daunting, and there may even be consequences of your decision to follow Jesus that you now have to face.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if Anyone is in Christ, The New Creation Has Come: The Old Has Gone, The New is Here!”

What Happens if I Do Not Feel Saved?

Does Being Saved Keep Me from Sinning?

No, being saved does not completely keep you from sinning on this side of heaven. Even though a believer receives a spiritual new birth, they still live in a physical, fallen human body. Christians continue to battle temptation and the desires of the flesh daily. The Bible states that claiming to have no sin means a person is fooling themselves. Being saved does not give one authority to sin, one would always continue to live like Christ and if you should step into the flesh then repent and continue to walk with Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “The Holy Spirit changes us from producing the acts of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:22-23 says, “The Christian life is a changed life because the Christian is changed.”

Romans 7:15 says, “I do not understand what I do, For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate to do.”

Faiththeevidence.com says this, “The grace of God is not an excuse to sin, but rather the power that enable us to overcome it. By relying on God’s strength, we can find victory over sin and grow in holiness.”

Receiving salvation does not come with a feeling. It is a common experience, and it does not mean you lack salvation. Salvation is a factual promise based on Christ’s work, not an emotional state. Feelings change constantly and are easily influenced by fatigue, stress, or guilt. God’s word remails stable even when your emotions fluctuate.

  1. Faith over Feelings – Direct your attention back to the objective promises of the Gospel.
  2. Reasons for Doubt – Your emotions do not match what you think you should experience as a believer.
  3. Assurance of Salvation – Your assurance of salvation is based on the objective promises of God in the Bible rather than your changing emotional state.
  4. Seek Support – Seek teachings and community support offer grounding perspectives and practical steps when you experience a lack of spiritual certainty or the feeling of being “saved.”

Scripture to give you further support, John 6:37, Ephesians 1:13, and Ephesians 2:8-9

Kerry Baysinger of Answerthebible.com says this, “We don’t earn salvation by feeling a certain way. Rather, we receive the gift of salvation by trusting in Christ.”
